Who We Are

Runaway Puppet Theater brings timeless tales to life with a twist! From zany puppets to hilarious storytelling, we captivate audiences of all ages!

Founded by Ed May, Runaway Puppet Theater tours libraries and community events with engaging, interactive performances. Our mission is to make classic stories unforgettable while sparking laughter and imagination in every audience.

“It was one of our most attended programs of the summer. Ed had the best communication of any performer I have hired… The kids still are talking about his performance!”

What We Do

Runway Puppet Theater brings imagination to life through colorful characters, lively storytelling, and plenty of laughter. We specialize in performances that engage, entertain, and leave audiences smiling long after the curtain falls.

Our shows feature:

  • Zany twists on classic stories that keep audiences guessing and giggling
  • Interactive sing-alongs and audience participation that make every performance a shared experience
  • Hilarious puppetry antics that delight both kids and adults alike

Each production is crafted to spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and bring families and communities together through the timeless art of puppetry. Whether it’s a school assembly, library program, or community event, Runway Puppet Theater delivers fun that everyone can enjoy.

“Wonderful performer! A show for kids and adults! I think I laughed harder than a lot of the children!”

Who Is This Ed May Guy?

Hi there — I’m Ed May, the guy behind Runaway Puppet Theater! I’ve been a professional puppeteer for more than 35 years, bringing stories (and a few oddball characters) to life on stage and screen.

Over the years, I’ve performed with The Muppets, The Jim Henson Company, and Sesame Workshop, and my work has appeared in film, television, and live theatre.

I’ve toured to over 250 cities worldwide, performing for more than 10 million people as part of Walking with Dinosaurs, traveling through North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia — and closer to home, I’ve been to every state in the U.S. except Maine!

In 2012, I started Runaway Puppet Theater, and since then I’ve toured throughout the Southeast, South Central, and Midwest, performing for libraries, schools, and festivals. Each show combines classic stories, original comedy, and a dash of delightful chaos that keeps kids laughing and adults entertained.
